The Longest Established LTA Tournament Providers Abroad
Copyright Algarve Open 2014
The Algarve Open is headed up by Keiran Montagu, a CCA Performance Tennis Coach and Gloucestershire’s Coach of the Year in 2009. Keiran started the St. Peter’s Tennis Academy in 2005 at St. Peter’s High School in Gloucestershire and, since then, the Academy has grown from one player to approximately fifty, most of whom are competing regularly.
The Academy has had numerous Gloucestershire County singles and doubles champions over the years, including the 2016 Boys’ Under 16 Singles Champion. St. Peter’s has also created International and European ranked juniors from scratch.
The St. Peter's Boys’ Under 18 team finished 6th in the Team Tennis Schools National Championships Competition in 2014, the highest placed state school in the country. The team backed this impressive result up by finishing 5th in the same competition in 2015. The Girls’ Under 18 team finished 12th in the UK in 2016.
Our links with the Algarve stem from one of our coaches Danny Guerreiro, who was formerly in the Top 10 Under 18’s in Portugal. Danny moved away from the Algarve at the age of 16, to attend Sanchez-Casal, before being awarded a tennis scholarship to attend an American University.
